I made these little pretties for a bridal shower last weekend. Red velvet cupcakes with pale pink buttercream frosting. Simple, yet so sweet and elegant. I love the deep red of the cupcake against the pale pink. Like one of my favorite movies, pretty in pink.
TEACHER GIFT ALERT!!
19 MayOk, get ready for a shameless plug of these things. I made my son’s preschool teachers end of school “Jars of Joy” as my mom calls them. These are cupcakes in a jar. I did not invent the idea…oh how I wish I did. But, I perused the world wide web to find many ideas and have gotten tips from friends on these too, telling me I needed to make these. So, I made them and they turned out really, REALLY cute. If you are looking for a teacher gift, please look no further. I’m pricing these at the low, low price of $6. I will snazz them up with ribbon and a spoon and you can put whatever card you like on them. Everyone loves a homemade cupcake, but in a sweet little package, even better.
Here are some AMAZING photos from my official taste-tester and photographer, Stephanie DeLay. Thank you once again. You’ve outdone yourself. Sure beats my iPhone photos.
Momma’s Day Rose Cake
9 MayI tried a new recipe for a white cake with lemon frosting for Mother’s Day for my MIL, and for myself, because I’m a momma and I like cake. I don’t make cake-cakes a lot, just cuppy cakes mainly. So, this was fun to do. I made an 8 inch double layer cake with pale yellow lemon frosting. I piped yellow roses on top and ran out of frosting or I would have done the whole cake. I have seen beautiful photos of rose cakes on some of my favorite baking blogs, and have always wanted to try it myself. I think it turned out really nice, and the taste…well, I hope that I can run this cake off or I’m in big trouble. It was a great, moist white cake almost like a wedding cake and the lemon frosting…oh my. Perfect for a Momma on her day.
Paisleys for a Paisley
7 MayI was asked to make these cupcakes for a baby shower honoring the future arrival of a baby girl named Paisley. I loved the idea of these and I loved working with these colors. There were dots on the shower invitation, so I incorporated those into the cupcakes as well. Half of the cupcakes were a fresh strawberry cupcake with a strawberry buttercream, the other half of the cupcakes were red velvet with, you guessed it, cream cheese frosting. In the words of my son, “DELICIOUS!”…except that he is usually referring to his Dino chicken nuggets. My daughter is my cupcake enthusiast. At least she’s petite and looks to be staying that way.
I really loved these. One of my faves. I hope they were a hit at the shower!
Testing, testing…
19 AprI’ve been testing out new flavors. Here is another new favorite. An orange cupcake with orange buttercream…tastes a lot like an Orange Creamsicle. Yummy. This one is a great one for summer. Very light and refreshing! I used a 2D tip to get the rose look for the frosting. I used both yellow and orange frosting in the bag when I piped the roses. Love the effect that it gives. I just bought a rose tree with this same color flower too. Love it!
Surprise, surprise, surprise!
19 AprIn the words of Gomer Pyle…surprise, surprise, surprise! Why there’s an Oreo cookie inside! These are now officially one of my favorites: Cookies N Cream cupcakes. But, I love Oreos. Big. Time. I made these for my son’s end of season soccer party. What better time to test new cupcakes out than on 4 year old boys?? There’s a half Oreo in the bottom of the cupcake and big chunks of Oreo in the cupcake itself all topped with a cream cheese frosting and more Oreo crumbs on top. And, if you like, another Oreo stuck in the frosting. Can I say “OREO” one more time?? Enough talk, take a look. And. Drool.
Glad I went to the gym today. More milk. Yes, please.
Peace, love and cupcakes!
19 AprI was asked to make these for a slumber party for a cute ten year old girl. Her mom was brave enough to host a bunch of pre-teens for the night…cupcakes were necessary indeed! These cupcakes were so fun. I loved all the colors and the flowers, peace signs, stars and crowns. That is some serious girl stuff and I like it. I heard the girls were up late, late…surely it wasn’t all the sugar!
Carnival time!
19 AprI LOVE popcorn. Not popcorn in the microwave. Popcorn on the stove…like my momma makes. I make it all the time with my son. He likes for me to make it, but he doesn’t eat it. Oh well, more for me and little sister. And, if it makes him happy, I’ll eat it! I’m supposed to be talking cupcakes, right? These were fun to make just like popcorn on the stove. I made these fun, popcorn cupcakes for a 1st birthday party for a precious little girl. It was really fun to see them come together. I thought they turned out really cute. I got the idea from my “Hello Cupcake!” cookbook. They were vanilla cupcakes with buttercream frosting with white and yellow marshmallow “popcorn”. I hope she had a fun 1st birthday!
Sidebar: Pardon the photo. It ain’t great. I was in a hurry to get to my boy’s soccer game. 🙂
Chocolate and Peanut Butter…a perfect, perfect match.
7 AprI made these yummy cupcakes for a sweet neighbor on her 20th birthday. The teen years are over! Her sweet momma had a birthday breakfast for her along with chocolate cupcakes and peanut butter frosting. I think there was a cute boy at the party too….nice! 🙂 (By the way, I could literally sit down with this frosting and lick the bowl clean in a short watch of the Biggest Loser. It. Is. That. Good.) Back to the birthday girl…I hope she had a terrific birthday and enjoyed every last one of these tasty treats! Chocolate and peanut butter and entering your 20s, how could you go wrong?? Happy birthday!
Tennis anyone?
7 AprI recently made a dozen tennis cupcakes for a fun group of country club ladies. I didn’t get a group shot of the cupcakes put together with the tennis balls on top, but I did keep one extra for my tennis playing hubby. These were chocolate cupcakes with buttercream frosting with a fondant tennis ball on top. I am not a tennis player…but I’m not bad on the Wii. (Insert laughter here.) I did have to ask my husband if the fondant actually looked like a tennis ball. (Insert more laughter here.) He said yes, so I went with it. I heard the ladies loved them. I hope so!
